The Effectiveness Of Teamwork Isn Doesn Something That...

Introduction The effectiveness of teamwork isn’t something that just clicks it is something that requires cooperation as this enables us as team members to assist and support one another to work as a team. Levi (2014) stresses the need of cooperation in a group as this enables groups to function ‘smoothly’ and ‘effectively.’ Dawes (1988) cited by Levi (2014:p.83) says that it is key that others members set an example when it comes to ‘cooperation’ as this allows other individuals in the team to follow. In our group there were five of us where we either worked in a care setting or we were a student attending work placement. I was a student on work experience in a nursing home for elderly, member two was at work placement in mental health†¦show more content†¦Then I will analyse, conclude and provide an action plan this will include if we were put in these circumstances again what steps would be taken (Gibbs 1988). In my opinion, team working is where individuals from different cultures, backgrounds, skills, qualities and who carry different views all come together to make a team and work towards a singular goal. My team consisted of a friendship group which made communication with each other much easier which is supported by Murray et al. (2003) who defines a group, as individuals who are already familiar with one another. Teamwork had a positive impact on myself as I was working with familiar people who were part of my social circle which I found to be an advantage because I felt comfortable, and able to voice my opinions to the team without feeling judged. Levi (2014) emphasises the importance of ‘social relations’ when doing group work. I also found teamwork quite a challenge due to my friends having a different level of skills, capability and understanding to the work which made me feel a little left out. Plus our group left the presentation last minute which made me feel unpr epared to present, I wish we had done a run through of the presentation to allow us to have increased confidence. Belbin (2009) takes into consideration the nine team roles for Belbin’s

Beauty Contests Are Harmful Free Essays

The old saying goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. In other words, someone or something that is considered attractive to one person may not necessarily appeal to another. If we lived in a perfect world, maybe everyone would follow the wise words of this old saying and admit that evaluating beauty is a subjective practice. We will write a custom essay sample on Beauty Contests Are Harmful or any similar topic only for you Order Now However society that does exist feels some strong compulsion to turn every aspect of people’s lives into a competition. In my opinion, the prize of Beauty Queen in one competition society could live without. Beauty contests are an unnecessary element in society simply because they set unrealistic beauty standards for an audience of easily influenced young girls, they encourage judging on appearance, rather than on a person’s character, and mainly because they objectify women. Beauty contests are well promoted by the media, with television and images, which influence young women’s opinions on appearance. The participants of these contests are poor role models for these girls as they set impractical body weight, breast size and clear skin standards. This sets an ideal female body, which only a minority of women can realistically aspire. This adds pressure on all women to conform which can then become incredibly harmful to young women by encouraging dieting, eating disorders and cosmetic surgery, or simply making them feel inadequate and ugly. An article, titled â€Å"Thoughts about Miss Teen USA,† out of a local American magazine was written by a young teen in 2005, who had just watched ‘Miss Teen’ on NBC. Her recap of the contest was; â€Å"White teeth. White teeth. Prom-style dress. Blonde. White teeth. Blonde. Chandelier earings. Tan. Blonde. Tan. Strapless gown. † Followed by â€Å"That’s all you need to know† This certainly does not promote the contest in fact quite the contrary. The statement made by this young teen is not one that is from a minority. She is one of thousands that view this as the â€Å"norm† for a woman of beauty. It is not healthy for a young teen to think there is one type of beauty or one type of accepted body. It is harmful and could lead to both physical and emotional damage. Secondly, beauty contests further the belief that looks are superior to a person’s abilities, feelings and heart. These women are judged solely on the bases of physical appearance. The existence of talent just does not work simply because an â€Å"ugly† person just won’t win! Judging women but not men, primarily on their looks contributes to the subjugation of women because other qualities, such as intelligence, are not seen as part of ideal femininity and therefore not as things to which women should aspire. Miss USA 2002 went to a tall blonde ditzy Ohio woman, who was won over by the crowd when she made her statement that education was important and that you can tell if someone has an education by looking at them. The irony in the statement being that beauty contests are not shallow and are not just based appearance. Beauty being seen as a high priority to men and women all over the world is harmful because it discourages women to be different and to show women are not â€Å"just a pretty face. † Lastly, beauty contests strongly promote the negative aspect that women are seen as objects of sexual interest. These contests fail to challenge harmful political attitudes to women. They do nothing to aid the liberation of women, in fact by promoting looks as the most important feminine quality, they harm women’s liberation in general. On the 17th of February the Campus National Organisation for Women protested the Miss UF Beauty Pageant. They handed out 300 protest flyers which stated their disgust with Florida Blue Key and the University of Florida for holding a sexist pageant where women must be inspected in swimsuits and parade around in evening gowns in order to be awarded scholarship money. This shows how beauty contests encourage women to see themselves as an object (like a car) to be judged by men. Beauty contests hurt women by treating them as objects held up to a strict standard of â€Å"beauty,† a standard that is painful, time-consuming, and expensive for women to try to achieve. In a high percentage of Hollywood films, even those in which the woman should be portrayed as a strong willed, independent heroine, usually feature women being played off solely as sex objects. Though there is nothing wrong with a woman being classified as â€Å"sexy† it should not be the entire package. One made of uniqueness, intelligence and charm is what should be promoted. Movies such as; Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Charlies Angels, send the same message to the young men and woman, that beauty contests do, which is that only one kind of women’s body is acceptable. This is harmful to a majority of women as beauty contests are encouraging men to treat them as an object rather than woman with opinions and uniqueness. Beauty contests are an unnecessary element in society because they set unrealistic beauty standards for an audience. There are contests out there, which attempt to create a judgment of well-balanced people. These sorts of competitions are trying to promote the intelligence mixed with beauty side, which should be heavily commended. However, contests in which beauty is emphasised as a solitary basis for winning, like beauty contests, are dangerous and harmful to society. How to cite Beauty Contests Are Harmful, Essay examples

Event Planning and Management Ceremony Event Design

Question: Discuss about theEvent Planning and Managementfor Ceremony Event Design. Answer: Introduction Event design is a term used to refer to the conceptual development and creation of an event so as to make such an event meaningful and of great impact to the audience (Finkel, 2012). Event design helps in the accomplishing objectives of an event and ensures the audience attain maximum satisfaction. An event design is a useful tool since it enhances communication with the audience and has the effect of modifying and influencing the behaviour of an audience (Christie McAteer, 2006 ). In any event such as conferences and festivals, event designers are very resourceful people since they help to improve the general shape of events they are assigned to take part (Kose, Argan, Argan, 2013). They use various techniques and principles to make the general environment appealing. There are different skills that event designers should have so as to increase their efficiency. Such skills include; multitasking, budgeting, time management and being attentive to details among others (Allen, 2012). The Scope of the Event This task will focus on designing an event known as the New Dawn ceremony. The ceremony occurs in different parts of the state and its mark the bicentennial of the founding of the state. The state government is the client. The client wants the event to be held in the centre of the city and an estimated audience of 500,000. Across the state, there will be other events held in regional centres and some remote areas. The state government has committed itself to fund the event. The event will take place up to the midnight of the actual bicentennial. The clients objective is that the event design will make a significant attempt to obtain increased support from the regional areas and the remote parts of the state as well as the capital city where there is a major population base (Reid Ritchie, 2011). The audience and participants will not be charged, and thus the client has a higher expectation that this event will help them receive media coverage and strong and positive publicity. As the event designer of the appointed company, it is crucial to come up with a design that will help in achieving the clients objectives (Sparks, 2007). A designer needs to use event techniques and principles that will make the audience have a memorable experience. A designer should work closely with the event manager since he will make sure that all logistics are in place to make the event a success. The client instructs that the project should be carried out in three faces which are pre-event (what is to be done before the actual ceremony), live (what is to take place during the actual ceremony) and post-event (activities after the ceremony). Pre-Event Activities The term pre-event refers to those activities that are done before the actual day of the event (Reid, 2007). The event designer will have to use design techniques aimed at motivating the public to attend the New Dawn event. He or she should use the technique of authenticity and creativity so as to capture the attention of the target audience of the event (Graham, 2007). Creativity means using methods that will be pleasant to the audience such that they will look forward to coming to the event. On the other hand, authenticity refers to what the audience considers meaningful to them (Huh, Kim, Law, 2009). Authenticity makes the audience attain maximum satisfaction since they can identify themselves with what the event involves (Hystad Keller, 2008). A designer will need to work closely with the event manager so that can apply these design techniques to promote the idea of New Dawn to the city and the other regions state-wide with the aim of making people participate on the due day. The first step a designer should take is to inform the local authorities so that he or she can gain their approval although the event is arranged by the government. An event designer also needs to enquire whether the venues set for the event are free of other activities since there could be other scheduled events at the same venue. The scale should be considered when selecting the venue. For this event, a large venue will have to be searched for so as to accommodate and be appealing to the audience at the main event. Smaller venues can be allocated to facilitate the same event which will be happening in remote and regional areas. To achieve this he or she should work with floor planners to help him with the sitting arrangements so that the audience will be comfortable and each will have a personal space. Again, organizing with the decor experts will be crucial so as find out the shape of the event. It will involve. The designer will have to set up suitable mechanisms to sustain smoot h functioning of the event by choosing the best general layout which will make the venue pleasant to the participants. Audio-visual equipment can be used as well as lighting facilities when the darkness of the night approaches. Creation of awareness to motivate people to attend the event will be done by designing promotional materials and distributing them to the public. A designer may also use several techniques to enhance this awareness. For example, use of design flyers and posters inviting people to the event. Alternatively, the adoption of creativity on the flyers and posters to make target audience easily notice them. This can be achieved by use of colourful posters as well as animations, which will make the public curious to want to know what is contained in them. Another way which can be used to publicize this event is by advertising in the social media and if possible designing a website specifically to provide the information about the event and what activities will take place. The local events calendar can also be another way to create awareness since the designer will submit the event to them and will be part of the events that they notify the public they get in touch with (Troy, 2012). Booking of entertainers is also necessary for the success New Dawn event. The event designer has to look for entertainers who are experts, will engage the audience, and can modify their behaviour that will make the participants have a memorable experience. When the public is informed of the entertainment, they will be motivated to attend the event since they will want to watch it. The designer should do the planning; by considering the budget to prevent overspending. He or she will have to structure the budget such that the costs of promotion, the artistic work, and the venue design cost catered for. Live-Event Activities During the day of the ceremony, the event designer will communicate with other representatives state-wide to ensure that the audience gets maximum satisfaction. Here he or she will use event design techniques that will help the audience to have a great experience. It is through the experience that the planned event will help us to accomplish the desired results. It can be achieved by the adequate timing of the event which involves having a well-structured schedule. The agenda must be written adjacent to the time allocated to the program. Focus has to be applied which uses psychological techniques, for example, environmental psychology, social psychology, and cognitive psychology to direct the attendees to respective areas (Wang, 2011). Environmental psychology involves what captures the eyes of the audience, the use of aesthetics, the stage design, the prompts, and other physical attractions that can brighten the audience mood event before the event starts (Thomas, Hermes, Loos, 200 8). For the event to be successful, there should be live net-casting which is referred to as the distribution of the information and media presentation over the internet to reach many receivers worldwide (Palka, 2013). It can be reached to the receivers through live streaming, TV and radio broadcasting. Net- casting is essential since it saves time and money for the people, who may not be able to attend the function, and will serve a wide geographical area. Furthermore, the event can be made more appealing by using state-wild simultaneous events whereby during the web broadcasting, the recipients will be able to see different activities happening in the main, regional and remote venues at the same time. The video coverage will capture most significant activities happening on the participants, guests, workers and the stage. It will then be substituted simultaneously as the event continues. Since the event will be held up to the midnight, the designer will have to arrange for the midn ight countdown to mark the New Years Eve. It is important to celebrate since it marks successful end of a year and beginning of another one (Richardson, 2016).Celebrating a New Year in the New Dawn will make it historical and memorable to most attendees. Post Event Activities After the event is over an event designer will make sure that all the equipment hired, and leased are returned to the owners. Similarly, the designer will evaluate what happened during the event and what the audience experienced. A recorded video footage can be obtained to evaluate whether the event was successful or not. If it was successful, clips of the footage could be presented to TV broadcasting channels for them to be aired to the public for promotional activities. This will help the event owners to capture more attendees whenever such an event is hosted again. Conclusion From the above event design report, it is evident that there is a paradigm shift event to experience design dominant from event management dominant. Events are being planned such they create a positive and valuable impact on the audience such that they will always have something to remember from the event. This has improved the participation of audience since they always have something to motivate them to attend an event. Event design is being used in organizations with the intention of creating awareness of their existence to the public. References Allen, J. (2012). Festival and Special Event Management.' Internet Censorship Essays (1497 words) - Animal Welfare

Internet Censorship Animal cruelty encompasses a range of different behaviors harmful to animals, from neglect to malicious, brutal killings. Studies show that animal cruelty may lead to more serious forms of crime, like heavy drug use, violent outbursts, and most common, cold blooded murder. Many studies in psychology, sociology, and criminology during the last twenty-five years have demonstrated that violent offenders frequently have childhood and adolescent histories of serious and repeated animal cruelty. A web page that goes by the name Animal Alliance says ?most cruelty investigated by humane officers, is unintentional neglect, and can be resolved through education.? (3) I was slightly shocked when I saw this comment. Anyone who puts an animals' life in their hands, has a responsibility to it. You don't just forget to feed him/her, or forget to show them love unless it is intentional, it get so much worse, though. These people aren't just forgetting to feed their pets, or give them attention, they're kicking and beating them, poisoning and butchering these poor creatures, and what makes me sick to my stomach, is that some of these people do it for fun!! I recently ran across a link to a web page that contained a online petition to put a cat's killers to justice with maximum sentence. This is the article I found on this brutal torture of an innocent creature. ***WARNING*** (graphic details) ?On October 10, 1999, a beautiful female cat came willingly to the four boys who stopped on the side of the road and called to her. Her trust was rewarded by unthinkable terror and cruelty - being used as a tug-of-war toy until the boys heard something pop, having her legs broken, being jumped up and down on like a trampoline. Even when her pitiful battered body was mercifully dead, her suffering was not at an end. The boys then placed her ravaged body under the wheel of their car, braking over her, as they drove off to find other amusement. Once the Chesapeake Animal Control conducted their investigation and performed a necropsy, criminal charges were filed against 3 of the 4 boys involved. If these charges are found to be accurate, these boys are not only in violation of the laws of the State of Virginia, but are also in need of immediate psychiatric intervention.? (1)*** Another horrific article I ran across was even worse. It was about a dog who to was also a victim of rancid brutality. Here is that story. ***WARNING*** (graphic details) ?Jose, Marcus, Richard and Lance are accused of obtaining a video camera, pressing the 'record' button, luring Scruffy from his home, and then torturing and killing him in an unspeakably monstrous act of cruelty. In the videotape that the police and media have in their possession, four men are shown torturing and killing Scruffy in lurid detail. The quality of the tape is very good, and the police have been able to obtain photographs of the men in the tape. In this tape, one of the four men is shown to elevate Scruffy off the ground by the neck, and then begin this horrific abuse by choking him. This 6 pound little dog did not have a fighting chance against these men. Scruffy, still alive, was then placed in a trash bag. The four men shown in the tape then doused the trash bag with what appeared in the video to be lamp oil, took a cigarette lighter, and set Scruffy on fire. Scruffy, at this point in the video, began to run wildly in pain and agony around the trees while the four men watched and laughed. When the flames finally went out, Scruffy was still alive, but his torture was not over. Next, the men decided to try to decapitate Scruffy with a shovel. After slamming the shovel into Scruffy's neck and not being able to attain their goal, they realized that Scruffy was more of a fighter than they had expected. The men then opened Scruffy's mouth and began to pull his jaws apart, as if trying to rip his face in two. Using the shovel in place of a club, the men then beat Scruffy until his tiny body gave out, and he died. Throughout the videotape the four men are all shown laughing and having a good time as they are carrying out these unspeakable tortures.? (1) *** After I read these stories I was disgusted, revolted, down right sickened

Economics Theory Essay Example

Economics Theory Essay Example Economics Theory Essay Economics Theory Essay Economics Theory Name: Course: Institution: Instructor: Date: Economics Theory The cost of $6 per person in the community is a negative externality. This is an external costs caused by the building of the water park. This is a negative externality because it involves added costs to the community. Additionally, the people within the community where this park will be built are third parties and do not incur costs or benefits directly (Keppler, 2007). These costs are not compensated by the city council. Negative Externality S= MC Equilibrium P S1= MC-X D= MB Q1 Q* Q The per-unit amount of the externality is the amount of the positive or negative externality realized for every unit of good produced by the council. In this case, the product is the water park that will increase the traffic. The negative per-unit amount of externality is $2. When businesses realize increased security at night as well as the surrounding, this will be a benefit from the water park. Additionally, with a benefit of $3 for every person attending the water park, the positive externality is realized (Mankiw, 2011). Therefore, this is a positive externality since the city council will not be refunded the money, and neither will the neighboring surrounding and businesses have to pay for the extra benefits realized from increased traffic and security at night. The per-unit amount for both externalities is $2. One way of solving the negative externality for this project is having the city council compensate for the added costs to the community by reducing some of the services it renders to people. Alternatively, it should also be required the community the same amount of money. Therefore, this can be added back to its marginal costs. For the positive externality, people or community should seek to increase it through means such as pushing for subsidies to have the goods at a cheaper price. This would increase the benefits for the whole community. References Keppler, J. H. (2007). Theory and Measurement of Externalities. University Paris-Dauphine. Mankiw, N.G. (2011). Generalized Framework For Mining Web Content Outliers Research Paper

Generalized Framework For Mining Web Content Outliers - Research Paper Example With the advent of social networking web sites, micro blogging as well as an increase in usage of the net over mobile phones added an avalanche of data over the web, which varied in context and attracted all sorts of interest groups. This constant increase in information has created a great need of fast, relevant and mature content search methods that can sift through information, understand and generate search results in the shortest possible time. This requirement resulted in the development of revolutionary search engines like Bing, Google, etc. These search engines not only perform rapid searches over provided query from the user, however, they also maintain huge repositories of data classified into specific categories. There are several challenges that exist within such classification processes, and which can cause imprecise search results if they are not dealt with properly. Several methods have been proposed to match the most relevant web content with the user's query, however , this is a matter of debate that whether search engines should only generate the directly matched results or also provide some relevant results? Both methods have their own significance and a mixed kind of approach is in practice by different search engines. Google's page rank method got great popularity and has been modified by others for different purposes, for example the importance or relevance of a page is not measured for the top query results generation however several other kinds of processes are associated with this page ranking method. For instance, the computational advertisement industry has grown to a $20 billion industry this year and is expected to go further and big search engine groups are leaders in this industry so far. Advertisements are supposed to be placed on relevant pages so that they are viewed by the relevant i.e. targeted customers, which not only increases the revenue for their customers in terms of return of interest, however, moves towards personalize d or behavioral targeting. People and animals Essay Example for Free

People and animals Essay Your role is to find a minimum of three connections between the reading and the world at large. This means connecting the reading to your own life, to happenings in the local and/or global community, to similar events at other times and places, to other people or problems which you are reminded. You might also see connections between this portion of the novel to other parts of it; other writings on the same topic, or similar issues being raised in other classes. Realize that whatever the reading connects you with is worth sharing. PLEASE TYPE YOUR RESPONSES. There are many connections to be made between Crichton’s Jurassic Park and life today. Michael Crichton is not exactly a scientific writer, but he uses real science to back up everything about his novels. He extrapolates the concepts, much as other science fiction writers do. The first example are the sentences â€Å"They are not free at all. They are essentially our prisoners. Unable to survive in real world† (Crichton). This reminds me of animals at a zoo or even the idea of cloning. Natural reproduction in animals is one thing, but making animals for only our purposes is questionable. I realize people breed dogs and other animals to sell, but large scale cloning becomes a little scary. In fact, there are some people now who believe in more rights for animals. These people would be very unhappy with a theme park that clones animals. They are already extremely unhappy with people who keep animals for pets. The next part that reminds me of something else is all the reliance on fences. The people who built Jurassic Park believe the fences will protect them. In the poem â€Å"Mending Wall,† Robert Frost says that before he built a fence, he would want to know what he is walling in or out. The same is true for this novel. First of all, the fence gives the characters a false sense of security. They believe the fence will protect them from the dinosaurs when, in reality, the dinosaurs can escape. However, in walling the dinosaurs out so heavily, they are also walling themselves in. It will be much harder for them to get away if anything would happen. I think we rely on all kinds of fences to give us a false sense of security. I think about gated communities. People buy expensive homes in gated communities to keep â€Å"undesirables† out, but really, it is not hard to leap a fence. If people want your wealth badly enough, they will go over the fence. The Mexican American border is another example. We believe that if we can staff the fence enough with la migra, we can protect ourselves from illegal immigration. The fact is that there is not enough fence to keep the United States from gaining thousands of illegal immigrants each year. Mexico is poverty, and the United States is wealth. Those fences won’t protect us at all. The whole concept of being able to visit a dinosaur park makes me think of eco-tourism and how popular it has become. We all want to get glimpses of true nature. We are willing to make our own land into parking lots, but we will travel to exotic places to see nature unspoiled. Unspoiled nature is not meant for tourists. Before long, garbage and refuse will be left in the rainforests or wherever and destroy the delicate balance of life there. Dinosaurs went extinct for a reason. Maybe we don’t know what the reason is, but they should not be brought back for our amusement. We should not travel to other countries to see animal life and primitive people. It is disrespectful. The last sentence to discuss is â€Å"The history of evolution is that life escapes all barriers† (Crichton). This is what we always forget in creating new things. Once we give something â€Å"life,† anything can happen. People and animals are not meant to be controlled and will always surprise us. The fact that the dinosaurs are breeding should not surprise anyone, but it does. The scientists actually believe that they can create an artificial environment that they can control. But adaptation is always in the works.

Majority or Minority Influence :: Politics, Compliance, Conversion

This essay concerns social influence in general. Aspects of social influence as such as majority influence and minority influence will be discussed in terms of their underlying psychological processes and how they differ. Majority influence or conformity refers to the desire to belong or to fit in within a particular group which involves adopting certain attributes, behaviour and attitudes of a particular group. As a result individuals consequently experience group pressure (in Baron, Branscombe & Byrne 2008). Minority influence on the other hand, refers to the influence that the minority exert over the majority in that the majority come to accept the beliefs and behaviours of a minority (in Baron et al. 2008). A considerable body of research has been injected into the nature and impact of both majority and minority influences. Moscovici (1980 in Hogg and Vaughan 2007) claimed that both majorities and minorities exert influence in different ways. One psychological process underlying majority influence is through direct public compliance. The dual-process dependency model which was postulated by Deutsch and Gerard, (1955 in Hogg and Vaughan 2007) proposes two important motives for conformity: normative social influence and informational social influence. Normative social influence refers to the need to be accepted and approved by society. This involves individuals to modify their behaviours and to adopt new/current ones that are associated with the particular social group so that they are not rejected (in Hogg & Vaughan 2007). An example of this situation can be reflected in Asch’s (1956 in Baron et al. 2008) study of conformity in which participants conformed to the majority group but at the same time maintained their own private opinions and disagreed. This process is known as compliance (in Bailey, J.et al. 2008). The second motive that explains why people conform according to Deutsch and Gerard, (1955) is based on informational social influence. According to Festinger, (1950, 1954 in Hogg & Vaughan 2007) this type of influence is associated with uncertainty. Here individuals are uncertain and lack knowledge as to how to behave in certain situations. Festinger referred to this as social comparison in which individuals are not fully confident about their beliefs, attitudes and opinions and therefore yield to majority in order to be correct. This occurs particularly under ambiguous conditions and is clearly demonstrated in Asch’s (1956 in Hogg and Vaughan 2007) and Sherif’s (1936 in Hogg and Vaughan 2007) studies in which participants converged on similar answers particularly when the tasks became extremely difficult for them to be able to rely on their own judgments (in Bailey et al.

HSC 3045: Promote positive behaviour. Essay

In order to promote positive behaviour a care setting or organisation should follow legislation made by government such as the Human Rights Act 1998, codes of practise and relevant policies set out by the trust or service. It is important to read and understand theses legislations and policies and then apply them to working practise. We receive mandatory training that reinforces the trusts policies and keeps us informed of any changes to be aware of. Best practise tells us that if we keep good notes and share information with colleagues correctly then we will be able to help and support patients correctly and encourage positive behaviour. Read more:Â  Essay on Promote Positive Behaviour 1.2 Restrictive interventions are ways and methods that prevent an individual from carrying out a certain task. 1.3 Restrictive interventions must only be used if the individual is at risk of injuring themselves or others, or if coursing damage to property or illegal behavior. 1.4 If an incident occurred where restrictive intervention was needed then the clinic manager or senior nurse must be informed immediately. An incident form will be filled in and sent to human resources and the incident team within the trust. 1.5 Where possible the least restrictive interventions should be used as they can sometimes escalate the problem rather than defuse it. Using the least possible restrictive intervention will prevent further harm to any individual involved and will avoid the intervention being deemed as abuse. 1.6 In order to safeguard both the staff member and individual during a restrictive physical interventions, they must only be carried out by a trained member of staff. It must be reasoned that all other measures have been attempted and failed before carrying out restrictive intervention. If at anytime during the intervention it becomes apparent that the person involved or staff member is at an increased risk then it must stop immediately. If a person becomes harmed during the intervention then a court of law may rule it as abuse.

The Post-American World

eading this article I could only have one thing in mind as a small business owner myself, and that was to discuss options other then buying. Based on the reading as well as my own research this is what I came up with Franchising? Or Licensing. Franchising vs. Licensing: An Example Franchising: Some fast-food chicken franchises cost more than one million dollars to get into, a LFC store costs as little as $150,000 to establish a planned restaurant, even less for an existing one. This allows the â€Å"small guy† access to a successfully established product with a 30 year track record. Our relatively low start-up expenses have attracted hard working entrepreneurs with limited financial means, and because of this, 90% of LFC owners are minorities, whom many have achieved a high level of financial success. LFC competes directly with the big names like KFC, Popeyes and Churches; our highest volume stores are surrounded by these businesses. Licensing: The only requirements are that you purchase LFC ingredients (Seasoned Flour, Red Pepper Mix, Dirty Rice Mix) and imprinted items (boxes, bags, and cups with the LFC logo printed on them) through a designated LFC distributor. Definitions Franchising is a business model in which you purchase a license of a specific business. Franchising is a term which can be applied to just about any area of economic endeavor. Franchising encompasses products and services from the manufacture, supply for manufacture, processing, distribution and sale of goods, to the rendering of services, the marketing of those services, their distribution and sale. Licensing is granting of permission to use intellectual property rights, such as trademarks, patents, or technology, under defined conditions. It prevents others from exploiting the idea, design, name or logo commercially. It is a business arrangement in which a local firm in the host country produces goods in accordance with another firm's (the licensing firm's) specifications; as the goods are sold, the local firm can retain part of the earnings. Agreement A franchise agreement is a specialized license and will cover all aspects of IP, user obligations and use provisions A license agreement is a business arrangement where a licensor via a monopoly right such as a Patent, a Trade Mark, a design or a copyright has to exclusive right which prevents others from exploiting the idea, design, name or logo commercially. In business for yourself but not by yourself! In license agreement or business opportunity there is no ongoing â€Å"royalty or required relationship† in effect you are: In business for yourself and by yourself! Time Required to Finish It takes months for franchises to be done. It takes about ten to fifteen business days to complete. Distinct Areas of Law Franchising is based on securities law. It means compliance with the franchise laws, like the securities laws, requires registration of the franchise in the applicable jurisdictions Licensing is a form of contract law. It means licensing is merely a contract between two independent contractors and franchise registration is not required. Work Load Franchising route creates more work for lawyers in complying with all the registration requirements. Down the licensing road, it requires substantially less legal work. Amount of Control The parent company keeps very tight controls on every aspect of your business but they also provide a lot of assistance in the management and marketing of your store. The control by the franchisor over the franchisee is what is supposed to make the money for the franchisee; i. e. if you do what the franchisor says, you will make money. Buying a franchise is like buying a security; i. . the control over whether or not the buyer of the franchise or security makes money is in the hands of a third party; for the security situation it is in the control of the people who operate the company that issues the security, and for the franchise the control is in the franchisor who dictates how the franchise operates to make money. The relationship between a licensee and the parent company is not as tigh t-knit. Once the licensee launches the operation, the relationship with the licensing company is frequently limited to purchasing products. In a licensing preparation, you have more freedom in the operation of your business than with a franchising situation, but also more responsibility (there is also more risk and potential reward). You have the freedom to set your own hours, make-money policies, benefits, employment policies. Relationship with the Parent Company Franchisees can expect to have a much closer relationship with their parent company than their licensee counterparts. First and foremost, franchisees typically retain rights to the parent company’s trademark and logo. This is important ecause it is a visible representation of the connection between franchisor and franchisee. The relationship between licensees and the licensing company is looser than the relationship between franchisors and franchisees. In most cases, the licensee does not retain rights to use the company’s trademark Cost Difference It is substantially expensive. Franchisees can expect to pay royalties on a go-forward basis i. e. e very time a profit is made. License opportunities are often less expensive than franchises in both the upfront investment and ongoing charges.

Canadas Copyright Laws Essays - Copyright Law, File Sharing

Canadas Copyright Laws Essays - Copyright Law, File Sharing Canada's Copyright Laws Canada's copyright law is one of our hardest laws to enforce. The reason the police have so much trouble enforcing this law, is due to technology. This law is very easy to break, and once broken, it is very hard to track down violators. So although some form of a copyright law is needed, the one we have has, too many holes to be effective. There are three main ways in which the copyright law is broken in everyday life. They is audio/video tape copying, plagiarism, and software piracy. The first, and most commonly violated aspect of the copyright law, is the copying of audio tapes for oneself and friends. Thanks to the invention of dual cassette stereos, this has become very easy. You simply take an original or even another copy of a tape, as well as a blank tape. Stick them both in to the stereo and bingo you have a new tape. You also just broke the law. Along with copying audio tapes, now we can copy video tapes almost as easily. If you hook two VCR's together, they can copy from one to the other. You could rent a movie form the video store, copy and return it, with no one the wiser. The problem with copying video and audio tapes is that for every copy you make the recording artist, the actors, producers and everyone else who collect royalties from the tapes lose money. If the companies start to lose money, they raise prices. Thus a vicious circle begins. As prices go up, fewer people buy original copies. If less people buy the original cassettes prices will once again rise. Another major form of piracy is plagiarism. The stealing of someone elses ideas or work. The biggest category of people who fall into here are students. Very often a student when doing a research paper will "accidently" forget to footnote his work. By "forgetting" to give the author credit, the student has claimed the work as his own. Another reason students may copy someone else's work is to sound more sophisticated hoping that if they use someone elses words it will sound better than their own. Generally, this provides an easy way for a teacher or the police to catch them. Teachers also plagiarize rather frequently. Very often a teacher will photocopy several pages from a book, in order to save the students the expense of having to buy the book for themselves. While this is a noble act by the teacher, in most cases, this is illegal. Unless the author of the book, gave consent for his/her work to be freely distributed, teachers can't copy it anymore than students or anyone else can. The third category of piracy is Software Pirating. There are several forms which this can take. The most common form is very similar to audio/video cassettes. It is when someone copies a game or program from his/her computer to someone elses. As long as the two people have the same type of computer, (they both have apples or IBM's) this is a very simple process, so long as the programmer didn't put a bug into the program (a precaution they take against people copying their work). Another form of Computer Piracy is a "cracker". A cracker is someone who has an in-depth knowledge of computers and programming. He can then remove the "bug" that prevents programs from being copied. After he removes the bug he's able to distribute the software at his own discretion. This is in direct conflict with the copyright law, because the program was not meant to be copied thus the bug. It therefore becomes illegal to remove the bug. Like audio/video cassettes copying, computer games causes people to lose money. In this case, instead of it being the singer, or actors, it is the programmer, and the software companies who lose. This leads to the same vicious circle. More copies make higher prices etc.. The copyright law is hard to enforce likewise so are the penalties. If you are found in violation of breaking the copyright laws, you probably will only have to pay a fine. However, the fines can be quite subeztial and depending

Carbon Fibres and Composite Material Free Sample for Students

According to Goodman et al. (2011), a composite material refers to a combination of two or more materials that are of different composition, physical property, and morphology. These materials are often combined on a microscopic scale. Depending on the constituent properties, composites are in many cases designed to (or â€Å"intending to†) producing materials with materials aimed at fulfilling specific mechanical, physical, or chemical requirements. As a result, Hofmann (2016)   points out that the use of composite materials have progressively increased for the past 40 years and have many uses in the automotive, aeronautic, medical, and naval fields among other industries. Consequently, different composite biomaterials have been tested and studied for use in the medical field and are often commercialized for their advantages of the traditional composite materials that were used before. In the medical field, most human tissues such as skin, bones, tendons, teeth, and ligament are composites made up of single constituents whose distribution, morphology, amount, and properties are the major determinants of the final behavior of the resulting organ or tissue according to Paknikar and Kumbhar (2015). The same study denotes that human-made composite materials can as well be used in making prostheses that are used to mimic these biological tissues with the aim of ensuring thy match their mechanical behavior and restore the mechanical functions of the body tissues that have been damaged. This paper presents the history, structure and synthesis, mechanical properties, possible uses, as well as pros and cons of the carbon-fiber-reinforced,   peek (CFR-PEEK) composite material whose use have been studied, tested, and proven fit for medical purposes. Carbon Fiber, a polymer that is also known as a graphite fiber, is a very strong material and light in weight. Though stiffer than steel, its light weight makes it suitable for use as a raw material in the manufacturing of other materials (Garry, 2013). The composite material was discovered back in 1879 by Edison Thomas. The scientist backed bamboo silvers and cotton threads at high temperature carbonizing them into a fiber filament of all-carbon. His invention led to the use of high-performance carbon fibers in 1958 in Cleveland. CF-PEEK was then introduced as a matrix where long and short PEEK fibers were used as the composite matrix to ensure the end product had the qualities of both fibers. Despite the fact that they were inefficient, the fibers contained approximately 20% carbon with low stiffness and strength properties. However, the carbon fiber’s strength potential was realized in 1963 through a new manufacturing process at British research center (David et al., 2014). In the medical field, carbon-fiber-reinforced peek materials range from large scale components such as x-ray application materials to most invisible bolts internally used to support the bones in the body according to Paknikar and Kumbhar (2015). CFR-PEEK materials have for a long time been adopted for use in the medical field in different facets. They are widely used in the orthopedic processes mainly for bone crafts, bone cementing, hip joint replacement, and in the fixation of the bone plates in the body. Hofmann (2016) points out that CFR-PEEK can be fabricated with tensile strength or stiffness in the capability of the bone they replace in the body. As a result, the materials are successfully finding their way into the medical devices as implants to replace the internal body organs and tissues. Historically, many challenges have been faced by implant designers in achieving acceptance from different regulatory agencies globally. However, the uses of carbon-fiber-reinforced peeks are on the rise as a result of technological advancements and innovations. New medical applications and composite materials are gaining popularity and approval in many parts of the US food and drug administration (Garry, 2013). CFR-PEEK are used in the formulation of bone growths for implants such as temporary bone supports and bone screws mainly adopted in the orthopedic repairs. These materials have been adopted for use in the bioresorbable polymers that can safely break down and be absorbed by the body in the rebuilding process of the bone. In the medical industry, the first synthesis requirement is a performance parameter indicating the relative merits of different designs of CFR-PEEK with the primary knowledge that the growth and micro-motion of bones can be used for different purposes in a clinical view. What follows is a finite element code that determines the strains in the bone used as essential parameters in evaluating the performance of the carbon fiber. The CF-PEEK composite is manufactured by the use of a hybrid fabric composing of PEEK and carbon fiber as a matrix that is then modified and treated by low temperature and oxygen plasma. The process is then followed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Fourier transformation attenuated total reflection infrared spectroscopy (FTIR-ATR), and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) that are essential I relating the functionality and roughness of the carbon fiber surface with the PEEK interfacial adhesion strength.   The plasma treatment is aimed at increasing the roug hness of the carbon fiber surface while the prolonged treatment results into the smoothing. According to Duraccio, Mussano, and Faga (2015), the structural properties of a composite material are determined by the length, volume, and alignment of the carbon fiber it contains. Apart from being strong, carbon fibers have high tensile strength and stiffness but with low weight. It also has a high chemical resistance and is often tolerant to high temperature and excessive heat but with a low thermal expansion as denoted by Garry (2013). According to Cano and Guilemany (2016), the mechanical property of a composite material can be determined by the mechanical properties of CFR-PEEK. Carbon fibers consist of strong and thin crystalline carbon filaments for the strengthening of other materials. David et al. (2014) denote that the fibers can be thinner than the human hair but gets its strength when the fibers are twisted and laid over a coated and molded into plastics or resin. For these mechanical properties, carbon fiber is adapted for use not only in the medical field but many industries such as the military, automotive, and aerospace. There are two main forms of carbon fiber incorporation used in composites for medical applications. Short CFR-PEEKs that consist of short carbon fibers randomly aligned and are mostly less than 0.4 mm, used as producers of the homogeneous material property for the implant. Long CFR-PEEK consists of carbon fibers essentially running the entire width of most composite materials. The long CFR-PEEK has a tensile strength that is greater than 2000 Mpa when compared to the 170 Mpa which is of the short carbon fiber (Aspenberg, 2014). As a result, their controlled alignment of these carbon fibers hence helps in providing a broad range of anisotropic properties that can be controlled for specific functions depending on there the composite material that needs to be made and the use.   Ajioka et al. (2016) denote that carbon-fiber-reinforced peek material is engineered to produce a varying degree of stiffness and strength based on the number and orientation of the carbon fibers used. It is hence easier to help the manufacturer match the elasticity of the bone to be replaced with the composite implant material that will be fixed. On the other hand, Paknikar and Kumbhar (2015) also denotes that using carbon fibers as composite materials is easier since, before their innovations, manufacturers were facing challenges from modulus mismatch of the then used metal implants. For instance, the mismatch was often producing stress shielding; alter loading, and a periprosthetic bone remodeling process that was often detrimental. Commercially available carbon fiber composite materials have been tested in several ways for fatigue cycles but have always proven to be effective and resistant. Nayeri (2014) denotes that the average strength for a 4.5mm implant plate is 19.1 Newton meters while that of a similar 4.5mm stainless steel compression plate is 17.8 Newton meters. The bending strength of available 10-mm CFR-PEEK is averagely 80.3 Nm, while an 11-mm titanium tibial plate bending strength is 43 Nm. This has proven that the testing for wear debris of the implants is significantly lower than the wear debris strength of titanium plates made from the steel as pointed out by Goodman et al. (2011). The same study denotes that the healing and fracture reduction are available for a standard radiograph. The absence of both MRI and computed tomography means that CFR-PEEK for the composite implants has applications for infections, spine, and for oncologic cases. Even though there are several advantages of using the carbon-fiber-reinforced peek composite implants for medical reasons, there are also some specific disadvantages. For instance, they cannot be contoured hence making their use in fracture fixation limited to straight diaphyseal hence calling for a specific locking screw technique anatomically designed for the specific fracture Utech and Boccaccini (2016). At the same time, stiffness can be beneficial to the receiver, but the too much flexibility is as well dangerous as it can lead to pseudarthrosis. The increased fatigue strength of the implants helps in decreasing any possible risk to fatigue failure. However, the radiolucent nature of the carbon-fiber-reinforced peek used in the manufacturing of the implants precludes directly hence visualizes radiography. In his study, Hofmann (2016) denotes that all biomaterial composites intended for use in the body of any living organism have to meet certain conditions, regulatory requirements, and criteria. These include; Carbon-fiber-reinforced peek have found a wide application and use in different facets of the medical sectors. These include bone cementing, bone grafting, hip joint replacements, bone fixating plating, and other forms of bone replacements (Asghari et al. 2017). In the manufacturing and design of prosthetic composite implants used for the replacement of the central bone and the combined joint, the primary objective is often to arrive at an implant with a higher bone growth stimulus but slightly lower that the titanium alloys implants that are currently used (Egger et al. 2017). From the CFR-PEEK innovations, patients can easily get access to rapid and easier proper implant fixation and bone replacement. Achieving these objectives requires the synthesis and structure of the composite implants to consist of three primary elements. In his study, Soboyejo (2017) points out that CFR-PEEK includes bio-glass-ceramic, xenograft, and allografts often used in joint replacements and tissue engineering. They are often made of different layers of long and short carbon fibers; the final product often combines the properties of both the materials used. The resulting product is often mechanically strong but lightweight at the same time. Saleh (2016) also denotes that the materials have low density and can easily resist corrosion. The use of composite body implants has several advantages when compared to the metallic devices that were used before their inventions. It modules if elasticity and fatigue strength makes the CFR-PEEK an ideal composite implant material for bones plates and nails. The disposal of CF-PEEK is becoming a major issue since the different carbon fiber reinforced composite materials are reaching the end of their live services. According to Schinner, and Brandt (2011), over 27 000 tons of CF-PEEK have produced annually. As a result, grinding up the waste material and sending it to landfills or disposing of it through incineration has little appeal to the environment since it is non-biodegradable.   With global warming and climate change policies affecting every global industry, incineration is not the best method of disposal of the material as it will lead to the production of greenhouse gasses as well as smoke, thus leading to pollution. Disposal into landfills also reduces the aesthetic value of the environment turning the areas into wastelands and creating environments for disease-predisposing factors such as stagnant water collection points for mosquito and bilharzia breeding when it rains. As a result, different recycling methods such as pyroly sis have been adopted that strips away the epoxy resin from the fibers while leaving the original properties undamaged. The medical industry is driven and guided by the demands of the medical profession that seeks constant improvements and device innovations for better medical care. Consequently, different composite biomaterials have been tested and studied for use in the medical field and are often commercialized for their advantages of the traditional composite materials that were used before. Carbon fibers have found a wide application and use in different facets of the medical sectors. These include bone cementing, bone grafting, hip joint replacements, bone fixating plating, and other forms of bone replacements. Ajioka, H., Kihara, H., Odaira, C., Kobayashi, T., & Kondo, H. Cause and effect on gluten free diet Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Cause and effect on gluten free diet - Essay Example One of the main reasons due to which gluten-free diet is being considered is because of an increase in celiac disease and people suffering from this disease appear to be quite insensitive to the consumption of diet that contains gluten. Celiac disease is recognized as an autoimmune disorder that tends to disrupt the smaller intestine and due to this disruption an individual experiences lack of nutrition as well as distress in the intestinal region. If these issues are not countered at an early stages then the chances of an individual developing intestinal carcinoma as well as infertility is quite high. People are moving towards gluten-free diet because in recent years several individuals have been diagnosed with this disease. A study was conducted by Rubio-Tapia in order to identify the prevalence of celiac disease amongst the population of United States and the researchers identified that 35 individuals out of a sample size of 7,798 individuals were experiencing this disease (Rubio- Tapia 1541). Fear of being diagnosed with celiac disease is not the only reason due to which individuals have started moving towards gluten-free diet. Wheat has been found to be the major source of gluten and individuals experiencing allergic reactions caused due to wheat consume less of wheat or they avoid wheat at all times and these individuals even tend to live on a gluten-free diet (Watson 133). Another disease which is regarded as a sign of celiac disease is dermatitis herpetiformis which is categorized as development of burning sensation along with rashes that are red in color and they develop on an individual’s skin (Watson 133). Physicians have proposed that individuals suffering from this disease should even avoid diet that contains gluten. Consuming gluten-free diet can both positively as well as negatively impact an
